Chasm Of Aeons

by Cryptic Shift

about

Cosmic Dreams is FINALLY available on physical media as a part of 'CHASM OF AEONS', a special blend of cosmic death metal sorcery presented in a split release alongside US bands: REPLICANT, INOCULATION & ASTRAL TOMB

Primarily unleashed via Heavenly Body & Desert Wasteland Productions in 2020, later in the year Blood Harvest Records joined forces for vinyl support!

"CRYPTIC SHIFT are up first with the aptly titled "Cosmic Dreams." Hot off the MASSIVE critical acclaim for Visitations from Enceladus, their BLOOD HARVEST debut album from earlier this year, these still-blooming British stalwarts here effortlessly create a maelstrom of mesmerizing math and hacking-into-the-mainframe horror, all threaded together with classy (and cosmic) soloing. REPLICANT follow with another aptly titled track, "Unbeing." Here, these on-the-ascent Americans build a dense 'n' dissonant monolith of deep-space dread. INOCULATION are next with "Xerthaneus," which is just as tricky and treacherous as that title promises: super-dizzying cosmic DEATH done with insane precision, and sure to mangle your mind. Closing out proceedings are ASTRAL TOMB, who verily create their moniker with the slamming 'n' sluicing "Transcendence From the Mortal Plane Guided by a Familiar Phantasm." And their track literally sounds like that, and more: angular, skronking, and shit-heavy!"

For us the incredible painting by Bruce Pennington perfectly portrays an alternate point of view of the character of Cosmic Dreams, the opposite of The Amnesiac... One that is soon to be continued?

"You and the craft shake violently as everything seems to separate into two, to your left you see yourself pulling further away and morphing into bubbling shapes; your brain struggles to understand it. You feel yourself from the third person before you feel nothing. From this point onwards, time is a circle without beginning or end…"

"She feels feel not herself, but also conscious of all that just occurred. The ship hurtles towards a green planet but not before gliding over fields of labyrinths, through a chasm of aeons. Out of millions of gateways, this one is chosen. Torn from beyond out of the vortex, bleeping warnings and erupting wires from the above consoles send you into a panic and you cannot control the trajectory. The smoking emerald planet gets nearer and the craft plunges into the atmosphere. Sensors can’t keep up with the incredible speed from being blasted from a time wound and report back the accurate aerodynamics or atmospheric composition. The ground greets her in seconds and she blacks out. Only once more she becomes conscious before a cold fate awaits, crackling voices as if over a radio system chatter nearby. Her vision is erratic as it reports wrong colours and she can’t tell whether a nasty hissing noise is coming from her head or the fumarole spewing gas beside the battered ship. She blacks out again as a silhouette emerges from a mineral pool ahead…"
